A Warm Welcome to our School
We are a thriving Secondary School located in East Finchley, geared towards achieving the best for our young people. We are a Catholic community and strive to uphold strong spiritual and moral values, both in and outside the classroom. We are a fully inclusive school and celebrate our diversity, with high expectations of achievement for all our students. Our 'Stage not Age' approach to learning enables us to ensure a personalised pathway for all learners. Our most able are stretched, and those with needs supported, to ensure that all achieve their full potential.
We are delighted with the judgements of the 2010 OFSTED inspection: "Bishop Douglass provides a good education for students", "The school is a well-ordered, purposeful and safe community" - Read the full OFSTED 2010 report(click here). We are proud of the inspectors' findings in the following quotes from the report which reflect the atmosphere that is evident in our school. "The very positive relationships that exist between students and their teachers and other adults create a calm and purposeful atmosphere in which to learn." "Students enjoy coming to school and value the school community because they feel safe, well cared for and supported." The most recent Westminster Diocese inspection of November 2010(click here)states that "Bishop Douglass is a good Catholic school with some outstanding features" reflecting the quality education provided within our faith community.
Due to the high demand for Community Places in Barnet and particularly in East Finchley, the governors have allocated 60 places to the local community from September 2012. Students will follow our innovative curriculum which is rapidly raising standards, but will not be required to follow the RE faith curriculum. This will be replaced by RE provision as would be in any community school.
We offer excellent facilities for all our students, including a state of the art science block, Sports Hall and fitness centre, Dance Hall, Drama Studio, Music Technology and Art specialist rooms as well as over 800 computers just for student use.We continue to move forward at Bishop Douglass, through adopting and incorporating new practices such as e-learning in every classroom, as well as 24 hour access to the curriculum through a well used Virtual Learning Environment.
Come and visit the school in action to judge for yourself. Telephone the school to book a tour and a meeting with the Headteacher.

May Half Term Holiday School
This is a critical time for many of our young people to get last minute help to prepare for the exams. Research shows that study supported by teachers is more effective than revising alone! There are Exam support lessons running every day in the holiday. Please click here to check the timetable and ensure your child attends all the sessions relevant to them (you will get a text each day reminding you of the sessions relevant to your son/daughter the following day). Students must be punctual because late arrival disrupts learning and the student is at risk of being turned away if more than 30 minutes late.
Congratulations on the excellent GCSE performance of Bishop Douglass pupils in 2012
David Laws MP, Minister of State for Schools, wrote directly to Angela Murphy to congratulate the students, staff and governors of Bishop Douglass School on the "excellent GCSE performace" in last summer's exams. He went on to state that our results placed us in the top 100 schools nationally for best improved schools, with students making such good progress from KS2 to KS4.
Annualy the Government report the "value added" measure, describing how much progress students make from KS2 to KS4, with the national average being 1000. Students at Bishop Douglass School scored 1013.7, well above the national average and putting the performance of our students ahead of those at Finchley Catholic High School, Christ's College Finchley, The London Academy and Mill Hill County High. The Headteacher, Angela Murphy commented "Bishop Douglass School has been serving the community of East Finchley for 50 years and I am delighted that the staff and students achieved so well in 2012 that the Minister has written directly to congratulate us. Bishop Douglass School will continue to serve the community in the coming years and I look forward to further outstanding results".
