Specialist Science Status

Our school was awarded specialist status in September 2007.

"Specialist Science College status is only awarded to schools that have achieved good exam results over the last three years particularly in Science and Mathematics and we had to demonstrate that we can keep them rising. We have had great results in other subjects, too: last year our KS3 English results were in the top 11% of similar schools across the country," said headteacher, Angela Murphy on hearing the news.

The governors and staff at Bishop Douglass School are delighted at the recognition given by the DfES in awarding Science College status. This bears testimony to the hard work of the staff in raising achievements and the consistent good standards in Science and Maths which the status has recognised.

"This now gives us more resources to provide access to the curriculum 24-7 through our new virtual learning environments. With the help of our sponsors, Sun Microsystems, The Jack Petchy Foundation, Finchley Development Trust, Finchley Credit Union and ScienceScope we will put e-Learning into every Maths lesson and every subject will have a computer suite. We already have a new Science block but the impact of new courses and extra resources will be tremendous. We look forward to sharing these excellent facilities and our expertise with our family of schools and the local community. What a way to start the new term in September."
