We are aware that there is concern around the issue of mobile phones. Please be assured that Bishop Douglass does, and will continue to maintain a zero tolerance stance on this matter due to reasons of safety.
The Metropolitan Police have confirmed that students carrying mobile phones are more prone to being victims of muggers. When your child uses a phone on their way to and from school they are more likely to be a target for criminals. If your child needs to use a phone they are welcome to do so by going to Student Services. As a consequence arguments about children being safe are not really valid.
All these items will be confiscated for two weeks before being returned to your child, but please note that, as a parent, you may collect the phone in person a minimum of 5 working days after it was confiscated. This applies to any electronic items also.
May I also respectfully remind you that all of our rules apply both to and from school. We reserve the legal
right to confiscate items and search any students whom we suspect may have anything on their person which could cause disruption. Other items that are not allowed in school are cigarette lighters, and electronic items such as headphones, mp3 players, and electronic games.
