Congratulations to all our GCSE students

Bishop Douglass is likely to have secured the best progress score ever at GCSE (although this depends on the national data set).  Mr Tissot said, ‘this year approximately a fifth of all grades were at grade 7 or above which is pleasing given the increased rigour of the examinations and the new, 1 to 9 marking system.’

Mrs Henderson, Associate Headteacher and Head of Year 11, said she was certain that success was to a large degree attributable to the additional lessons, that take place after school on Saturday and in every holiday period.  Mrs Henderson said, “Having been in school on most of the Saturdays this year, I have seen the hard work and sacrifices made and I am so pleased to see pupils reaping the rewards.”

Mr Burt, Head of Teaching and Learning, commended the hard work of pupils, the dedication of staff and Governors and the support of parents.  He said, “Across the ability range, the pupils have done exceptionally well this year. We are just as pleased for our students who find learning challenging as we are for our brightest and best who have secured clutches of grade 9s and top grades.

There were great successes across the board, but three pupils are worthy of special mention having secured their places to study A levels at the high-achieving Bishop Douglass Sixth Form Centre.

Daman Sawhney (male) -  Four grade 9s (Biology, Chemistry, Physics and RE).

Xenia James (female) – Three grades 9 (History, literature and RE).
