Black Lives Matter
“If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor.” Desmond Tutu
The community of Bishop Douglass School condemn racism in all its forms. We undertake to nurture and support our pupils so that they have the wherewithal to use their education and voice to create a better world for all people.
The recent events in the USA have appalled the world and lifted the veil on racial injustice and inequality. We know that George Floyd’s violent and senseless murder has stirred up a great many emotions among our community, and we will do our very best to support pupils and staff and listen to their concerns.
As a Catholic school, we go out of our way to welcome all to our community and celebrate diversity. All forms of intolerance and discrimination are opposed to our Catholic values and we recognise our responsibility to continue to work to confront and challenge the way that within our own institution and broader society is affected by racism and inequality.
Jesus said: 'Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.'
