A seamless transition

Every young person who receives a school place at Bishop Douglass is fully inducted from the moment they receive their offer letter in the March prior to starting with us.
We know that this gives everyone the best chance of starting in September full of optimism and ready to embrace their new school. Here is an outline of what prospective students and their families can expect.

At the beginning of March, Pupils attended the first transition event of 2022, our Welcome Event. Everyone offered a place came together to meet each other for the first time – both pupils and their families.
Pupils participated in exciting taster lessons – the perfect way to start discovering their new school and the types of subjects they will experience in September.

Parents and carers heard a presentation from Mrs Henderson, Head of School and from current Year 7 students on their life at Bishop Douglass so far. There was an opportunity for questions to be answered and also for parents and carers to spend time getting to know each other. It was wonderful to meet so many
of our new families!

Throughout the Spring and Summer term, we will host the remainder of our transition programme. Check out the highlights, below!

March and April: ‘Getting to know you’ interviews

Families have the opportunity to have a one-to-one session with a member of our Senior Leadership Team. These interviews allow us to find out more about our new students – their interests, passions, hobbies and learning styles.

May: an information guide

In May, we send out our New Year 7 Guide filled with useful information, including timings of the day, equipment, uniform, top tips and an insight into our student experience.

June: team building
Our new starters join us in June for an afternoon of immersive experiences with fun team building activities, providing another opportunity to get to know classmates and teachers before the transition days.

July: transition days
There are borough-wide days in July where Year 6 pupils are invited into their new school to get to know their new teachers, and form further friendships through a host of exciting and exhilarating new activities.

“ I was very impressed that the school organised this session for our children so quickly after receiving our place. This is a great way of helping everyone to feel comfortable, and my child is already so excited for the next event.” New parent
