Transition to Year 7 September 2021
At Bishop Douglass School we recognise that the step up to secondary education can be both exciting and daunting!
Our Transition Programme
'Getting to know you' meetings.
Individual sessions with the Head of School or Head of Year 7 giving you an opportunity to meet with us and for us to get to know your child.
An online family welcome session
An opportunity for you to hear from key members of our staff including the Headteacher and Head of School and also from those who will be directly involved with supporting your child including the Head of Year 7. You will also have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have about the school and the transition process.
Year 7 Handbook
You will be sent a copy of our Year 7 handbook - a handbook full of useful information to help you and your child get to know all about us.
'Getting BD Ready' Day
A Saturday morning session filled with team building challenges and some cognitive ability tests to ensure we are ready to meet the needs of your child when they start with us in September.
Primary School Visits
A member of our transition team will visit our primary feeder schools through June and July to ensure smooth transition for your child.
Our annual induction day when your child spends the day with us meeting our staff and getting a taste of life in secondary school. There is also an information session for parents followed by an opportunity to purchase uniform items from our uniform supplier.
A fun filled week at the start of the summer holidays. The camp offers a wide range of activities and an opportunity for your child to make new friends and familiarise themselves with the school.
Summer Reading Challenge
Your child will be given a book to read over the holiday which will start their reading journey here at Bishop Douglass.
A message from Mrs Pendakis, Head of Year 7
